Thorax
Diaphragmatic openings
A) Major openings :-
Vena caval opening (T8) (Quadrilateral) - Located In Central Tendon of Diaphragm - IVC , Right phrenic nerve , Lymphatics of liver pass through this opening - (on Contraction of diaphragm Venacaval opening undergoes Dilation)
Esophageal opening (T10) (Elliptical) - Located In Muscular Part of Diaphragm - Esophagus , Vagus nerve (Right & Left) , Left Gastric vessels pass through this opening - (on Contraction of diaphragm Esophageal opening undergoes Constriction)
Aortic opening(T12) (Rounded) - Located In Crus of Diaphragm - Aorta , Thoracic duct , Azygous vein , Hemiazygous vein pass through this opening - (on Contraction of diaphragm Aortic opening undergoes No change)
Note -
Splanchnic nerves pass through Right and Left Crus of Diaphragm
Azygous vein may sometimes pass through Right Crus of Diaphragm
Hemiazygous vein may sometimes pass through Left Crus of Diaphragm
B) Minor openings :-
Space of Larry (Superior Epigastric Artery passes in Space of Larry between Slip of Xiphoid process & 7th Costal cartilaginous slip of diaphragm i.e.., COSTOXIPHOID GAP)
Musculophrenic Artery Perforates diaphragm at level of 9th Coastal cartilage
Medial arcuate ligament - Sympathetic Trunk
Lateral arcuate ligament - Subcoastal nerves & vessels
Left Phrenic nerve - Left Cupola
Lower 5 intercoastal vessels & nerves pass between Coastal origins of diaphragm & Transversus abdominis
