1) Yellow -

• Expired / Discarded Medicines

• Chemical waste

• Microbiology , Biotechnology , Clinical laboratory wastes

• Chemical liquid waste

Treatment/Disposal options - 

Incineration / Plasma pyrolysis / Deep burial

2) Red - 

Type of bag/container -

 Non-Chlorinated plastic bags / containers

Type of waste -

 Contaminated waste (Recyclable) -

•  Tubing 

• I/V bottles (Normal saline , Ringer lactate , DNS)

• Intravenous tubes & BT sets 

• Central Line 

• PICC line

• Catheters 

• Drains

•  Urine bags 

• Syringes (without needles) 

• Gloves

Treatment/Disposal options - 

Autoclaving / Microwaving / Hydroclaving and then sent for recycling not be sent to Landfill

3) White (Translucent) -

Type of bag/container -

 Puncture proof , Leak proof , Tamper proof containers

Type of waste -

•  Waste sharps including metals

• Needles

• Syringes with fixed needles

• Needles from needle tip cutter or Burner

• Scalpels

• Blades

• Contaminated sharp objects

Treatment/Disposal options - 

Autoclaving / Dry heat sterilization followed by Shredding / Mutilation / Encapsulation

4) Blue -

 Puncture proof , Leak proof containers , Cardboard boxes with blue colored markings

Type of waste -

• Infected broken glass bottles

•  Glassware (Broken / Unbroken)

• Vials

• Ampoules (except Cytotoxic waste)

Disinfection / Autoclaving / Microwaving / Hydroclaving and then sent for Recycling

5) Black -

• Non-Infected general waste - Food waste , Mineral water bottles , Paper waste
